“ STOP THE COMPARISON!! ”

Comparisons to me, has become a normal part of human cognition and in very few cases, it can be good for self-improvement.

I would love to emphasize “self improvement” in the context above , as it depicts the fact that you are only trying to perfect or finetune what you already discovered about yourself. On a second thought, it is very dangerous to “compare ourselves” to others as it leads to a build up of pressure (as treated in last episode) and psychological pain, especially when you have not discovered or even nurtured the naturally deposited potentials in you.

To be very honest, most decisions young people take today are influenced by what they see, hear and take to heart and they furthermore showcase the comparisons they have accepted, as the “template to follow” to living a fulfilling life. Only few people believe in themselves and the very obvious fact that every human has unique traits and abilities that needs to be discovered and nurtured to function effectively . All being said, I can totally relate to the fact that we can not control every information around us and might want to live our lives based on comparisons and evaluation with someone else’s but the truth is , you are literally living the life and purpose of another and not yours. Permit me to divert a little to the Bible as I love this particular letter Paul sent to critics. He stated that they seem to look a lot at outward appearances, ignoring the mandate to identify with Christ and even trying to compare themselves with one another. He added that they measure up themselves by this and even judge themselves and others by these copied standards. Paul literally described this attitude as a “self delusion” because he really understood who he was in Christ and wanted to identify with that rather than compare himself to what is not.

For this reason alone, I have concluded to ask you a question you should answer for yourself; who do you belong to ? who are you? A shadow of someone else? Hell no!! I personally have started to love everything I have even more, as I know my identity as a Christian is “LOVE” and with this understanding, I have consciously taken steps in filtering information and suggestions that I am being exposed to on a daily basis as the pressure to compare comes one way or the other through the media and even people people close to me. We all just need to realize that although a lot of things creep into our minds, we actually have every power we need to decide what stays and what does not . This alone will really help in self discovery and full utilization of one’s natural potentials because you are literally more concerned about knowing who you really are and not trying to evaluate your life with someone else’s.

Also, we should bare in mind that great persons aren’t made by comparisons, they have literally done a lot of work on themselves to get to where they all are today. This is why you see diversity and uniqueness in what each and every one of them has to offer because they do not compare themselves with others! They own up to the crudeness of their personalities, improve on it to make impacts. And also trust solely in the principle of “timing” and endurance in the struggle to greatness.

On a final note, I would really love to read your comments and contributions on this post. Also, kind follow me and share this with others so they can read and start appreciating themselves more.

Thank you for always ❤️
